Catarroja, a native of South San Francisco, California, graduated from El Camino High School in May 2016 before enlisting in December the same year. MCMAP is a hand-to-hand defense program that all Marines learn during their career – Marines, and Sailors assigned to Marine Corps units, earn different colored belts to denote proficiency with martial arts. BLT 2/5 is the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Ground Combat Element. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide-range of military operations across the Indo-Pacific region.
