Tech Sgt. Eliza Villa of Fresno, Calif., a medic with the 144th Fighter Wing, California Air National Guard, leads a simulated disaster victim to a decontamination area during the 2011 Arizona Vigilant Guard Exercise Nov. 4, in Phoenix. Villa assessed injuries and helped locate victims as part of the Search and Rescue team. More than 500 California National Guard soldiers and airmen assisted in the statewide exercise, which included 250 agencies and prepared both the 49th Military Police Brigade to assume the role as the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Region IX military disaster coordinator, or Homeland Response Force asset and Arizona’s plans for responding to a large-scale disaster.
