181130-N-ID678-0020 ANNAPOLIS Md, (Nov 30, 2018) Vice Adm. Ted Carter,(L) Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy along with Chris Jahring (R), Vice President Turner Construction, await the lifting of the I beam during the topping out ceremony of Hopper Hall. The practice of topping out a building with an evergreen tree on the peak is a Scandinavian or Viking tradition and is commonly used to celebrate the completion of the major structural components of a building. Hopper Hall will include classrooms, teaching and research laboratories, lecture halls, offices, multi-purpose space, an observatory, loading dock, and research and testing tank in support of the engineering and weapons labs.
