More than 400 search and rescue volunteers from agencies across the state attended various portions of the helicopter safety awareness event, Oct 4-6 at the Walker Creek Ranch in Marin County. ‘Hot’ (engines and rotors on) training allowed personnel and rescue dogs to experience noise and the need for clear communication and hand signals when loading gear and sometimes a simulated victim. Both event coordinator and Napa County Sheriff’s SAR member, Travis Wiley and Cal Guard crew chief, Staff Sgt. Justin Jensen trained the volunteers. Jensen is a training Noncommissioned Officer (NCO) with Task Force Medevac located at Mather Field, CA. (U.S. Army National Guard photo by Sgt. 1st Class Salli Sablan)
