Arthur Nowell of Highland, Ill., assigned to 99th Regional Support Command, Fort Dix, N.J., strolls to an easy finish of the 12-kilometer ruck march at Fort Bliss Noel Parade Field Sept. 7 carrying 33 pounds. The 12K is one of seven Olympic-style, military and sporting events that are part of the German Armed Forces Military Proficiency Badge. The German air force personnel stationed here have sponsored the competition for American troops eight times in the past three years. The GAFMPB is awarded in gold, silver or bronze. The coveted badge may be worn on the U.S. Army service uniform.
