Like so many others who escaped ISIS, Fatima and her family returned to their village of Sinjar after the liberation only to face new hardships. Fatima had worked as a skilled seamstress but now had no income to support her family.
To help Fatima and her family overcome their financial hardships, USAID supported Fatima by providing her with new machines, fabrics, and other supplies and tools needed to operate a sewing shop.
“Opening this business made me feel like a dead person who has come back to life,” she said. With her new income, Fatima can support her family and pay back debt that she previously accumulated while trying to make ends meet. She intends to help her extended family, including enrolling her niece in school.
