Senior Master Sgt. Derek Wheeler, 203rd Air Refueling Squadron boom operator, meets with veterans who had once operated on the same KC-135R Statotanker April 30, 2022, at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. The historic aircraft, numbered 60-0329, is known for administering the world's first tri-level air refueling procedure in response to an emergency refueling request in 1967. Wheeler and his aircrew traveled from Hawaii to Ohio to participate in an induction ceremony and transfer the aircraft to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force.
