PACIFIC OCEAN (Aug 12, 2022) – Sailors handle the phone-and-distance line on the bridge wing of amphibious transport dock ship USS John P. Murtha (LPD 26) during an underway replenishment with the dry cargo ship USNS Richard E. Byrd (T-AKE 4), August 12. Phone-and distance lines are shot across ships during underway replenishments to ensure ships keep a safe distance from one another and maintain effective communications during the operation. John P. Murtha, part of amphibious squadron (CPR) SEVEN, along with 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), is currently underway conducting integrated training in U.S. 3rd Fleet to prepare for an upcoming deployment.
