Sgt. Andrew Paradis, a heavy equipment operator in the 210th Engineer Company, 54th Troop Command, New Hampshire Army National Guard, whips on a Mission Oriented Protective Posture jacket while attempting to don the suit within eight minutes, as part of the the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) warrior task, during the NHARNG Best Warrior Competition, Feb. 10, in Pembroke, N.H.
“I’m hot and uncomfortable,” said Paradis, who was clearly sweating. “I’ve done this a couple times at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California and it is even worse there.”
Paradis said he would hate to be in a CBRN environment, but the stress of how hard it would be to operate under such conditions motivates him to take the time to drill with protective equipment.
“It’s pretty important to know how to use your gear properly,” said Paradis. “You don’t want to be caught needing it and not know how to use it.”
