Recovery team members assigned to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) assist in the setup of a grid during a DPAA recovery mission, Nghệ An Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Feb. 24, 2023. The assigned scientific recovery expert uses precise global positioning satellite information and maps from previous joint field activities to determine where the current mission will excavate. Since 1973, the remains of more than 1,000 Americans killed during the Vietnam War have been identified and returned to their families for burial with full military honors. The Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency tirelessly continues the search for the remaining 1,241 missing in action servicemembers still believed to located in Vietnam..
