U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Anthony Clark, Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) explosive ordnance disposal specialist, removes soil from a unit during a DPAA recovery mission, Nghệ An Province, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, March 1, 2023. Agency teams deploy to countries throughout Asia, the Pacific and Europe, as well as to sites in the United States. The agency also performs humanitarian missions worldwide to recover and identify individuals as directed by Pacific Command. Since 1973, the remains of more than 1,000 Americans killed during the Vietnam War have been identified and returned to their families for burial with full military honors. The DPAA tirelessly continues the search for the remaining 1,241 missing in action service members, in order to provide fullest possible accounting for our missing and unaccounted-for U.S. personnel to their families and the nation.
