11th Airborne Division Deputy Commander (Support) Col. Thomas Burke and U.S. Coast Guard 17th District Commander Rear Admiral Megan Dean place a wreath at the grave of Medal of Honor recipient Col. Archie Van Winkle during a ceremony Oct. 18, 2023, in the Sitka National Cemetery. The ceremony is part of the annual Alaska Day festival activities marking the ceremony which occurred on October 18, 1867, on Castle Hill in Sitka, transferring the territory from Russia to the United States.
