U.S. Army Specialist Jaymz Saldivar, a combat engineer, assigned to 3rd Engineer Battalion, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, participates in the Division’s recognition of Native American soldiers during Native American Heritage Month, Fort Cavazos, Texas on November 7, 2023. Saldivar shares heritage with the Cherokee Nation, a federally recognized tribe spanning across 14 counties in the northeastern corner of Oklahoma.
“I am proud for this month, but to be honest, I am just like everyone else here serving this country with my brothers and sisters,” Saldivar said. “I am glad to be part of the team.”
Native American Heritage Month provides the Army an opportunity to recognize and express appreciation for the contributions of Native American Soldiers, veterans, civilians, and family members and to reflect on their achievements and contributions to the Army and to our nation.
