U.S. Coast Guard Lt. Nico Muzo, District 11 command duty officer, opens the casing for a self-locating datum marker buoy (SLDMB) aboard B.A.P. Rio Pativilca, Peruvian Coast Guard maritime patrol vessel, as part of exercise Resolute Sentinel 2024 west of Ancón, Peru, May 31, 2024. The SLDMB provides real-time measurements of surface ocean currents, improving location accuracy for search and rescue operations. The Resolute Sentinel exercise honors the U.S. promise to be a trusted partner in the region by increasing collaboration, enhancing interoperability, and building partner-nation capacity so that they can quickly work together when support is needed.
