Drill instructor students sprint, leap and pull themselves through an obstacle course Jan. 27, 2014, on Parris Island, S.C. Drill Instructor School is where noncommissioned and staff noncommissioned officers prove they are among the best in the Corps and capable of training future generations of Marines. Throughout the 11-week intensive course, the students learn they must be stronger, faster and smarter in order to keep up and surpass their recruits, most of whom will be young athletes. The Drill Instructor School on Parris Island and its counterpart in San Diego are responsible for training all future drill instructors.
