Sanford City Commissioner Mark McCarty presents to Maj. Carl Keller, commander of the 436th Civil Affairs Battalion, a Mayoral proclamation making July 19th Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn C. Cashe Day in Sanford, Fla., during a memorialization ceremony renaming the Sanford Army Reserve center in honor of the late Sgt. 1st Class Alwyn C. Cashe, an Oviedo native, on July 19. Cashe died from injuries sustained when he was rescuing fellow troops from a burning vehicle while he himself was on fire. He has been recommended for the Medal of Honor.
