U.S. Army Maj. Mickey G. Moppin, doctor of veterinary medicine for Camp Lemonier, Djibouti, checks the vitals of "Don" a military working dog assigned to the MWD unit on Camp Lemonier, April 24, prior to sedation. Don required sedation prior to X-rays to be completed at the base emergency medical facility looking for the cause of an upper respiratory problem. Don and his handler are assigned to Camp Lemonier and used for explosive, narcotic detection as well as security patrols. The service members of CJTF-HOA, headquartered in Djibouti, employ an indirect approach to counter violent extremism. Through a strategy of cooperative conflict prevention the task force helps build the internal capacities of countries at risk in order to prevail against extremists exploiting instability.
