GREAT LAKES, Ill., (August 7, 2015) – Command Master Chief Leon R. Walker Jr. carries a folded American flag following a flag passing at his retirement ceremony in the Recruit Training Command (RTC) Recruit Memorial Chapel here, Aug. 7. The flag was part of an “Old Glory” flag passing ceremony where a properly folded flag is passed from each rank in a Sailor’s career. For Walker, the flag was passed from a seaman to a master chief. The poem “Old Glory” was read by Logistics Specialist 1st Class Rashaad Essex. Walker presented the folded flag to an aunt and also presented previously folded flags to other family members who traveled from his hometown of Cleveland. Walker’s last command was as the command master chief for Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) and he retires after 32 years of service in the United States Navy.
