Medal of Honor recipient and World War II veteran, Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, observes the ships being built at the Nassco Shipyard in San Diego, Aug. 2. He received the award for his bravery during the Battle of Iwo Jima after he advanced on a series of Japanese pillboxes with demolitions and a flamethrower, clearing an advancement for the 21st Marines.
