Travie Ross, daughter of Medal of Honor recipient Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, prepares to weld her initials onto the keel of the ship during a keel laying ceremony at the Nassco shipyard in San Diego, Aug. 2. The ship was named after her father in honor of his service to this country and his valor during the Battle of Iwo Jima in World War II. Along with her father, fellow recipients Robert Modrzejewski and Senior Chief Special Warfare Operator Edward Byers, Jr., were in attendance. The ship is expected to be commissioned in 2018.
