    World War II veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams, speaks prior to the initial welding at the keel laying ceremony at the Nassco Shipyard in San Diego, Aug. 2. During the ceremony, Williams’ daughters Travie and Tracie Ross welded their initials on the ship to be named after their father. Williams is the last remaining survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima with the Medal of Honor. During the battle, Williams cleared a path for the 21st Marines and their tanks with a flamethrower and demolition charges.
