MARINE CORPS TRAINING AREA BELLOWS, Hawaii (October 18, 2016) – Reconnaissance Marines with the Maritime Raid Force, 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit maintain formation during high-altitude, high-opening parachute insertion training conducted on Marine Corps Training Area Bellows, Oahu, Hawaii, during the 11th MEU’s Western Pacific 16-2 deployment, October 18, 2016. Aerial insertion, mainly utilized for reconnaissance and surveillance missions, is one of many methods the MRF can use to clandestinely situate themselves onto the battlefield, often to bypass terrain that would otherwise be too difficult for ground vehicles to reach.
