USS MAKIN ISLAND, Pacific Ocean (October 30, 2016) – Marines with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit fire their M9 service pistols during a live-fire range conducted aboard the USS Makin Island (LHD 8), while afloat in the Pacific Ocean, Oct. 30, 2016. After obtaining an accurate battlesight zero with their M16A4 and M4A1 service rifles, the Marines conducted pistol training and combat marksmanship, which allowed them to refine their proficiency in methods such as quickly drawing and accurately firing, followed by the proper reloading, and holstering of their sidearm. The range was conducted as part of the 11th MEU’s Western Pacific 16-2 deployment to the Pacific and Central Commands’ areas of operation. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Devan K.
