A landing craft air cushion embarks the well deck of USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) with a 62 metric ton M1A1 Abrams tank aboard the hovercraft Dec. 1, 2016 during Amphibious Ready Group, Marine Expeditionary Unit Exercise off the coast of Onslow Beach, North Carolina. The exercise is part of the ARGMEU training cycle which prepares the Marines and sailors for deployment. An LCAC is capable of carrying this tank and support equipment while still maintaining a speed of up to 40 knots. The LCAC's capabilities to move heavy equipment rapidly between ship and shore enable the 24th MEU to be the nation's premier crisis response force. The LCAC is with Delta detachment, Assault Craft Unit 4. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt. Matthew Callahan)
