ATLANTIC OCEAN - (30 Nov. 09, 2016) Los Angeles-class, fast-attack submarine, USS Springfield (SSN 761), Executive Officer, Lt. Cmdr. Rene Cano holds remains of Capt. Paul “Bud” Rogers Jr. on Springfield’s sail as Rogers’ biography and biblical scriptures were read during a burial at sea ceremony. The ceremony also featured a three-gun salute and the playing of Taps, before Rogers’ ashes were committed to the sea. The ceremony took place at the final resting place of USS Thresher (SSN 593). Rodgers was assigned to be on the Thresher when it was lost, but was replaced with a senior officer the week before. (U.S. Navy photo by Petty Officer 2nd Class Erin Hamilton/Released)
