U.S. 5TH FLEET AREA OF OPERATIONS (Sept. 28, 2017) Hospital Corpsman 1st Class Loreto Cruz, from Chula Vista, Calif., assigned to the medical department aboard the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), prepares a portable x-ray machine to assess a patient in the main battle dressing station during a mass casualty drill. America is the flagship for the America Amphibious Ready Group embarked with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit and is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of maritime security operations to reassure allies and partners and preserve the freedom of navigation and the free flow of commerce in the region.
