170929-N-VK310-0037 CARIBBEAN SEA (Sept. 29, 2017) Lt. Mary Taylor, the intensive care unit nurse of Fleet Surgical Team 2 (FST-2), assists Paul Papadopoulos, a resident of Antigua, prior to departing the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp (LHD 1) in route to island of Guadalupe. Papadopoulos and another passenger were rescued by Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 22 (HSC-22) personnel after their private aircraft crashed into the water off the coast of Dominica on Sept. 28. Wasp is currently participating in humanitarian relief efforts in the Caribbean Sea following the landfall of Hurricane Maria. The Department of Defense is supporting the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the lead federal agency, in helping those affected by Hurricane Maria to minimize suffering and is one component of the overall whole-of-government response effort.
