BERING SEA – U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Scott Mellen reaches for a crane hook Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, that's being lowered from the Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB-20) in the Bering Sea. The crew anchored the Healy near Nome, Alaska, in order to transfer yellow float collars, which will house satellite and communication equipment that will be deployed in the Arctic. The Healy is one of two ice breakers in U.S. service and is the only military ship dedicated to conducting ice research in the Arctic.
