Coast Guard Cutter Healy conducts Arctic patrol in support of the Office of Naval Research

BERING SEA – Jason Gobat repairs a broken timer Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, in the science lab aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Healy (WAGB-20) in the Bering Sea. Gobat is one of 30 scientists aboard the Healy deploying sensors and autonomous submarines in the Arctic to study stratified ocean dynamics to determine how environmental factors affect the water below the ice surface. The Healy is one of two ice breakers in U.S. service and is the only military ship dedicated to conducting ice research in the Arctic.
