    3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Leonardo Bravo, left, and Sgt. Micah Schnayerson conduct a site survey with an S6 Total Station to assemble an M-31 arresting gear at Clark Air Base, Philippines, March 19, 2019, in preparation for Exercise Balikatan. An M-31 arresting gear can hook various tail-hook aircraft to rapidly decelerate aircraft as it lands. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the U.S. and the Philippines and comes from a Tagalog phrase meaning "shoulder-to-shoulder," representing the partnership between the two countries. The exercise promotes regional security and humanitarian efforts for U.S. allies and partners. Bravo and Schnayerson are surveyors with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171.
