    3d Marine Expeditionary Brigade

U.S. Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Curtis Moore stages a turnbuckle for an M-31 arresting gear at Clark Air Base, Philippines, March 20, 2019, in preparation for Exercise Balikatan. An M-31 arresting gear can hook various tail-hook aircraft to rapidly decelerate aircraft as it lands. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the U.S. and the Philippines and comes from a Tagalog phrase meaning "shoulder-to-shoulder," representing the partnership between the two countries. The exercise promotes regional security and humanitarian efforts for U.S. allies and partners.
