U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Jackson Wildes conducts a pre-inspection for an M-31 arresting gear at Clark Air Base, Philippines, March 22, 2019, in preparation for Exercise Balikatan. An M-31 arresting gear can hook various tail-hook aircraft to rapidly decelerate aircraft as it lands. Exercise Balikatan is a multilateral exercise that provides realistic quick-response training between the U.S., Australia and Philippines. The exercise promotes regional security and humanitarian efforts for U.S. allies and partners. Wildes is an expeditionary airfield systems technician with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171.
