An M-31 arresting gear sits next to the runway at Clark Air Base, Philippines, March 22, 2019, in preparation for Exercise Balikatan. U.S. Marines with Marine Wing Support Squadron 171 assembled and anchored an M-31 arresting gear to ensure various tail-hook aircraft may safely land on the runway. Balikatan is an annual exercise between the U.S. and the Philippines and comes from a Tagalog phrase meaning "shoulder-to-shoulder," representing the partnership between the two countries. The exercise promotes regional security and humanitarian efforts for U.S. allies and partners. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl. Tyler Harmon)
