JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (April 9, 2019) – Ensign Pauline Gachalian hands a newborn boy to his mother, Petty Officer 2nd Class Emily Smith, at Naval Hospital Jacksonville’s Maternal Infant Unit. Gachalian, a native of Kaneohe, Hawaii, says, “My father, who is my hero, was a retired hospital corpsman. He showed me the value of dedication, teamwork, and compassion. He always pushed me to become the best I could be, so I decided to become a Navy nurse. I love providing quality patient care to our nation's heroes and their families and getting to share one of the most beautiful moments in their lives working in the Maternal Infant Unit.” We celebrate National Nurses Week May 6-12.
