“One of my passions is collecting shoes. I’m really into the street culture of fashion and shoes, and right now I’m sitting at about 70 pairs. I do want to own at least 500 pairs of shoes. I see it as an investment and a hobby. Eventually, when I’m all done, I can pass my collection down to kids in the future or just sell it for more money. Some people see it only as a money move, but I’m more into the detail, color, and story behind the shoe. My favorite pair is an Air Force one. It’s not really a big shoe, but it was given to me by my grandfather. As a kid, I’d always wanted it from him. When he passed, he gave that shoe to me, and that’s a shoe that I will never ever sell. Me and him were super close, and I can never give that away for any amount of dollar.
Nike’s Jordan brand does a collaboration every year with a hospital in Oregon called OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, and that’s what really got me into shoes. Kids with cancer get to design their own shoe, and it’s dedicated to them, and any proceeds go toward the hospital. The details that the kids add is crazy, and some range from $500-1500. I’m eventually in the works of owning a pair. That will always be a dream.
Hopefully within the next two years, I’ll at least have 250 pairs and knock out half of my goal. Down the road, if I can, I’d like to start my own shoe business. There’s really a big community around it. I watch a lot of YouTubers, and I see they’re living in California and have opened these little boutique stores that are only in LA. Most of them only started with about 50 pairs and eventually made it to 3000 and are running a business. The stories they tell of their struggles of starting off as a young entrepreneur in the sneaker industry inspire me to believe that if that’s your dream, you can achieve it. If you want it, strive for it. You’re going to run into struggles and obstacles, but you can persevere.”
