Cpl. John Cunningham, a cavalry scout with California Army National Guard's Troop B, 1-18th Cavalry Regiment, maneuvers his body through the cross weave during the obstacle course event in the 2012 Region VII Best Warrior Competition at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., April 25. Cunningham had to ascend and descend the platform by interweaving his body between each cross board, with the distances of the boards increasing upward the approximate 10-foot high structure, making it that much more difficult for competitors to scale. The obstacle course event also contained dragging a dummy through a sandpit with barbed wire just above head, climbing up a 20-foot long rope, and several other challenges.
