Spc. Benjamin Mason, Arizona. Army National Guard NCOs and Soldiers competing in the 2012 Region VII Best Warrior tournament at Camp San Luis Obispo, Calif., completed a water survival event, then went almost immediately into an unknown distance foot march that would travel approx. six miles within the camp and trudge up and over numerous hillsides, drop down into the range area and finish at their next task: weapon firing. Arizona, California, Colorado, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah sent their two best warriors to the Golden State April 23-26 to pit their abilities against the best for that region. The "Fight to your Rifle" event tested one of the most important aspects of being a combat Soldier. The timed course had them drawing their 9mm, firing at different angles, moving towards their downed rifle, picking it up and running to a move and acquire range that had hostages to avoid hitting.
