Sharla Clemenson performs atomic emission and absorption tests on mercury samples with a charge coupled detector. The atomic emission excites the atoms in plasma and makes it emit a photon of light that will travel up its characteristic wavelength. The reciprocal technique, atomic absorption, generates a mercury light of all mercury wavelengths. The sample will be put through the CCD and the measurement of mercury light that is emitted will be recorded.
