Maj. Brittany LoPresti, Battalion Executive Officer, 832nd Transportation Bn., 597th trans. Brigade, briefs Brig. Gen. Heidi Hoyle, Commander, Military Surface Deployment and Distribution Command (SDDC) and Command Sgt. Maj. Rocky Carr, SDDC’s senior enlisted leader, on the capabilities of the Rapid Port Opening Element (RPOE) during a visit to the RPOE Deployment Center at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Newport News, Va. Jan. 19.
The stop at the deployment center was part of a day-long tour organized by the RPOE soldiers, which showed the SDDC commanding general where the Soldiers live and work on base.
The Rapid Port Opening Elements provide an expeditionary answer to the challenge of logistics support in contingency response operations for the Department of Defense. The 688th, 689th and 690th RPOEs – all based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va. – are the first active-duty Army units created specifically to provide surface transportation expertise for the U.S. Transportation Command’s Joint Task Force-Port Opening (JTF-PO) mission.
