STRAIT OF HORMUZ (Jan. 22, 2020) – U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Christopher Zalman, a stinger team leader with 3rd Low Altitude Air Defense Detachment, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 164 (Reinforced), 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit, monitors radar for unmanned aerial systems on the flight deck aboard the amphibious transport dock ship USS San Diego (LPD 22). San Diego, part of the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group, and the 15th MEU are deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
