While serving with the Idaho Army National Guard Blaine Ottinger played Lacrosse in a local Boise Men’s Adult League.
Lacrosse is played with a ball and moved around the 110-yard long by 80-yard wide field by means of a stick with a small net that cradles the ball. Different player positions use different sized sticks. Defensemen, like Ottinger, are allowed to use a longer stick. Players are allowed to pass and kick the ball but not use their hands in order to advance the ball. Lacrosse is a physical game and contact sport. Players use their sticks to dislodge the ball from each others possession and allowed to check an opponent just like hockey.
Idaho Army National Guard soldiers pursue a variety of off-duty recreational interests. In the Gem State, in and around the Boise region, Idaho soldiers take advantage of hunting, fishing, hiking and a wide range of community activities.
