Cpt. Blaine Ottinger, a communications officer with the idaho Army National Guard played Lacrosse in Boise until recently transferring to the Iowa Army National Guard. During a summer game Ottinger, a defenseman wearing the blue and red helmet, scrambles among players trying to prevent the opposing team from scoring.
The governing body for Lacrosse in the United States is USA Lacrosse. Throughout the college and university ranks the NCAA manages the games. USA Lacrosse claims there are currently 396 men’s and 525 women’s Lacrosse NCAA teams. The United States Military Academies of West Point, Annapolis, the Air Force Academy and the Coast Guard Academy all play Lacrosse in the NCAA.
Idaho Army National Guard soldiers pursue a variety of off-duty recreational interests. In the Gem State, in and around the Boise region, Idaho soldiers take advantage of hunting, fishing, hiking and a wide range of community activities.
