The six-fan drive used to provide air for the 40- by 80-foot wind tunnel at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California, is shown following its completion in 1944. The 80th anniversary of the first operation of the 40x80 tunnel occurred in June. The tunnel, along with the 80- by 120-foot wind tunnel at the Ames Research Center, are managed by Arnold Engineering Development Complex. Together, these two tunnels make up the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex. (National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics photo)
