A 36% scale model of the space shuttle is moved into the 40- by 80-foot wind tunnel at the NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field, California, in the mid-1970s. The space shuttle model was tested in the wind tunnel around the mid-1970s. The 80th anniversary of the first operation of the 40x80 tunnel occurred in June. The 40x80, along with the 80- by 120-foot wind tunnel at the Ames Research Center, are managed by Arnold Engineering Development Complex. Together, these two tunnels make up the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex. (NASA photo)
