Lance Cpl. Andrew D. Hoisington cuts niches into steal beams during the preparation phase of an engineering civic assistance project Sept. 23 at Taysan Elementary School, Legazpi, Republic of the Philippines. Hoisington and other Marines with Construction Platoon worked alongside Philippine Navy Seabees to reinforce the foundation and securing rebar to the top segments of the wall to stabilize the building for renovation. Humanitarian and civic assistance projects during PHIBLEX 14 offer unique opportunities to build interoperability with our partner nations, while at the same time building capacity and sustainability for the future. Hoisington is a combat engineer with Construction Platoon, Marine Wing Support Squadron 172, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The Seabees are with Naval Forces Southern Luzon and the Naval Construction Brigade. (U.S. photo by Sgt. Brian A. Marion/Released)
