(March 3, 2015) World War II Navy Reserve veteran and Saint Paul native Richard Thill leads a chorus of “Anchors Aweigh” during a ceremony at the Minnesota State Capitol commemorating the Centennial of the Navy Reserve. Thill, along with 84 Reservist shipmates from Saint Paul, served aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Ward— the ship that fired the first U.S. shots of the war, sinking a Japanese submarine hours before the attack on Pearl Harbor Dec. 7, 1941.
