Maj. Scott Armen, an Army Reserve surgeon from Gainesville, Fla., checks an IV bag in the emergency room of the 629th Forward Surgical Team of Columbus, Ohio. The 629th was providing routine medical care to other personnel, when they got the call that a Ugandan soldier had suffered a serious head injury and needed immediate attention. Armen and the team stabilized the soldier, sutured a facial laceration, and prepared him to be flown by helicopter 200 miles south to a hospital in Kampala.
