Army Reserve Capt. Shawn Shumard, a nurse, hangs IV bags from the ceiling of the field hospital operated by the 629th Forward Surgical Team our of Columbus, Ohio. The 629th FST provided critical care for a Ugandan soldier struck on the head with a steel beam at a construction site, stabilizing him and preparing him for emergency transit by helicopter to a Kampala hospital 200 miles south. The 629th FST provides routine medical care and emergency capabilities to the US forces supporting Natural Fire, a military exercise with Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
