SOUTH CHINA SEA (July 5, 2016) The Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Chancellorsville (CG 62) patrols the South China Sea. Guided-missile cruisers are used to support expeditionary strike groups and amphibious forces, or to operate independently as flagships of surface strike groups. Chancellorsville is on patrol with Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
