160707-N-OI810-114 SOUTH CHINA SEA (July 7, 2016) The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur (DDG 54) patrols the South China Sea. Guided-missile destroyers are multi-mission anti-air warfare, anti surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare combatants, which operate independently for support of carrier and expeditionary strike groups and surface strike groups. Curtis Wilbur is on patrol with Carrier Strike Group Five (CSG 5) in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility supporting security and stability in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
